Community Standards

Why Not? is an app built on trust. Everyone here is your neighbor. We believe most people show up with good intentions — these standards exist for the rare exceptions. Thank you for helping make Why Not? a place worth being.

Use of the Why Not? app indicates consent to these Community Standards as well as the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, all three of which govern your interactions with the App itself and other users.

The Why Not? app (“the App”) exists to help real people connect over genuine, shared experiences — a great meal, an activity, a conversation. Our community standards exist to keep this space safe, respectful, and worth showing up for.

Our Community Standards include the following;

Your profile must accurately reflect who you are. This means:

• Use your real name, age, and a genuine photo of you that has not been materially altered to change your appearance (see AI and Manipulated Content, below).
• Only post dates when you genuinely intend to follow through.
• Be transparent about your intentions — romantic or platonic.
• Accurately represent any commitments you make in posts/messages (e.g., costs, timing, location) and honor them or promptly update the other person through the App.
• No impersonation or identity fraud — do not create accounts for someone else, use another person’s image to represent yourself, or misrepresent your relationship status or availability.

Every member of this community deserves to be treated with dignity. This includes interactions before, during, and after any meetup, both in-App and off-platform communications related to the meetup.

• No harassment or sexual harassment, including persistent unwanted messages, coercion for dates or sexual activity, or attempts to obtain sexual images or favors.
• Accept ‘no’ or silence — if someone does not respond, do not send repeated follow-ups; one polite message is enough.
• No discriminatory or hateful language, slurs, symbols, or behavior targeting any protected characteristic (e.g., race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age).
• No body shaming, mocking, or demeaning language of any kind. No doxxing or targeted harassment — do not participate yourself, and do not encourage others to contact, shame, or threaten a member on or off the App.

Respect the privacy of other members. Respect consent and confidentiality in all communications, including voice notes and video.

• Do not share another member's information, photos, or messages outside the App.
• Do not share images or details of another person’s life, family, or activities (e.g., children, other family members, business, or home) without explicit permission.
• Exchange personal contact details only with mutual, explicit consent.
• Do not screenshot or record conversations without the other person's knowledge. This includes AI or tool-based transcription/recording.

We want every date to feel safe before, during, and afterwards. Trust your instincts, and if you feel unsafe, end the interaction and report it. Please:

• If you share personal contact information, only do so once both parties have consented through the App’s communication platform.
• Keep initial meetups public, well-lit, and tell someone your plans.
• Do not arrange rides or home pick-ups for first meetings; meet at the venue.
• Let a trusted friend or family member know your plans.
• Never share financial or sensitive personal information (e.g., passwords, codes, banking, crypto wallets) and do not send or request money, gift cards, or financial favors.
• Report anything that feels unsafe or suspicious using the in-App report button. Examples include suspected scams, fake profiles, impersonation, threats, or violations of these Standards. Learn how we handle reports in our Terms of Use.
• No weapons, violence, threats, or intimidation.
• No facilitating or requesting illegal drugs or controlled substances.
• If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services; see Safety Resources for additional support.

Why Not? is NOT a platform for:

• Commercial use, escorting, sugar arrangements, transactional companionship, or quid-pro-quo offers (money, gifts, rent, services) in exchange for dates or intimacy.
• Promotions, advertising, lead generation, multi-level marketing, or referral harvesting.
• Recruiting members for outside platforms or services.
• Sex work, sexual services, or explicit sexual content, including requests for sexual images, sextortion, or sharing intimate images.
• Threats to obtain and/or use non-consensual intimate imagery (e.g., revenge porn, or threats to share private images).

• Do not post misleading AI-generated or materially manipulated images, videos, audio, or text intended to deceive others about your identity, appearance, voice, qualifications, location, or actions.
• Disclose when AI tools have been used to generate or materially edit your profile photos or bio text by adding ‘AI-edited’ or ‘AI-generated’ in the caption/fields provided.
• No deepfakes or synthetic media depicting real people without their consent.
• Minor cosmetic edits (lighting, cropping) are fine; edits that change facial/body features, age, or setting in misleading ways are not.

• You must be 18+ to use Why Not?
• Do not post or request images that sexualize anyone under 18.
• If you suspect a minor is using the App, report it immediately via the in-App report.

If you post a date or accept one, make a genuine effort to honor that commitment. Last-minute cancellations happen, but repeatedly posting dates without any intention of meeting may result in account suspension. Patterns of no-shows, chronic lateness, or bait-and-switch changes (e.g., venue, time, costs) may result in limitation, suspension, or removal. Communication and courtesy go a long way.
